Pinaka rocket was launched from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) located in Chandipur, Odisha.
India on Monday conducted the first successful flight testing of Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR-120) from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha. During this, the rocket was fired up to its maximum range of 120 kilometers.
This successful test was conducted by Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). During the flight, the rocket successfully completed all the prescribed in-flight maneuvers and accurately hit the target. All tracking systems deployed at the range monitored the rocket throughout its flight route.
The special thing is that the first test of this 120 km range rocket took place on the same day when the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) approved its inclusion in the Indian Army. The DAC meeting was held on Monday afternoon.
The LRGR has been designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in collaboration with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory. Defense Research and Development Laboratory and Research Center building has also helped in making it.
This flight testing was conducted by the Integrated Test Range and Proof and Experimental Establishment. The rocket was fired from the Pinaka launcher already in use in the army, which proved that Pinaka rockets of different ranges can be fired from the same platform.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO on this achievement. He said the development of long-range guided rockets will strengthen the capabilities of the armed forces. Sameer V. Kamat, Secretary, Department of Defense Research and Development and Chairman, DRDO, witnessed the testing from the front and praised the teams for successfully completing the mission.
Pinaka Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) is a long-range artillery system designed for the Indian Army. It is known for fast and accurate attacks, which increases the operational capability of the army.
Pinaka is considered a breakthrough among indigenous weapon systems and has received strong support from the Army. Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi has indicated that the purchase of alternative systems may be reconsidered once the long-range Pinaka edition is fully operational.
Pinaka system has also been successful in the field of defense exports. Armenia has purchased it from India, while many European countries including France have shown interest in purchasing it.
