It was the only contest of its kind, in which 30 models from many countries were going to walk the ramp in bikini. Foreign media named it Miss World. Its first winner was Sweden’s Karsene Margerita aka Kiki. She wore a bikini during crowning.

The first Miss World Ceremony (Bikini Contest) was in London. After this, this ceremony continued in London for 38 years.

As soon as this contest broadcast on television, the then Pope of that time criticized it fiercely. He considered it against religion and society. Many countries also refused to send their contestants. This bikini contest made headlines due to controversies.

Due to popularity, Eric Morley registered this contest with Miss World name and made it an annual competition.

1970- Bomb thrown on stage during finale

On 20 November 1970, Miss World was being fined at the Royal Albert Hall in London, when suddenly 60 feminist Protestors reached there and started throwing flour bombs on the stage. The hosts of the show were nervous and the ceremony was stopped. She was angry with the women’s exhibition at the contest. Earlier, BBC’s broadcast van parked outside the hall was attacked by the British Terrorist Group before the ceremony started. Luckily there was no harm in both the blasts.

The ceremony was stopped for some time from the bomb blasts, although the ceremony was resumed after the situation was controlled.

1970- Black Woman became Miss World and protests

In 1970 itself, Miss Granada Jennifer Hoston of the Caribbean country Granada became the first black woman to win the Miss World. After the winner announced, people started opposing Miss World. Broadcast partner BBC also received several letters, opposing the result.

Later it was also revealed that Sir Eric Gary, Prime Minister of Granada was included in the jury. Miss Sweden got the highest number of votes, although Jennifer Hoston was won under pressure from the Prime Minister of Granada.

Miss England accused organizers before finale, left contest

2025- Miss World 2025 is being held in Hyderabad, India.
