Hockey India has announced a reward of ₹ 50 lakh for the women’s hockey team. On Thursday, India made it to the top-5 in the World Cup after 52 years. The team had defeated Germany 3-1 in Amstelveen, Netherlands.

The prize money will be divided between the players and support staff. Each player in the team will get ₹2 lakh, while each member of the support staff will get ₹1 lakh.

Hockey India President Padmashree Dr. Dilip Tirkey praised the team’s performance and said that finishing fifth in the World Cup after 52 years is a historic achievement for Indian women’s hockey.

India scored 3 goals in the second half

Under the leadership of captain Salima Tete, India defeated world number-5 Germany 3-1 in the classification match. The first two quarters remained goalless, but in the second half, India took control of the match by scoring three goals.

Ishika scored the first goal in the 42nd minute. After this, Navneet Kaur scored two consecutive goals in the 44th and 47th minutes to increase India’s lead to 3-0. Germany’s Lynn Krings scored a goal in the 58th minute, but India won the match 3-1.

India’s previous best performance in the World Cup came in 1974. Then the team stood fourth. After this, by finishing fifth in 2026, India made it to the top-5 after 52 years.

Only one defeat in the entire tournament

India started the tournament with a 2-2 draw against China. After this, South Africa was defeated 6-1 and the match against England was a 0-0 draw. The team reached the top-8 by finishing second in Pool-D.

India lost 2-0 against Netherlands in the Top-8 stage. After this, a win against Australia was necessary to reach the semi-finals, but the match was a 0-0 draw.

Scored 11 goals, conceded 6 goals

India scored 11 goals and conceded 6 goals in the entire tournament. 7 players scored goals for the team. Navneet Kaur was India’s top scorer with 4 goals, while Deepika scored 2 goals.

Hockey India General Secretary Bhola Nath Singh also praised the team. He said that Salima Tete and her team have proved themselves against the strong teams of the world.
