West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose received a death threat through e-mail late Thursday night. Senior officer of Lok Bhawan has confirmed the threat.
According to the officer, a threat has been made in the e-mail to blow up the Governor with a bomb. The sender of the threat has also written his mobile number in the e-mail.
The officer told PTI- We have informed the DGP. Instructions have been given for the immediate arrest of the accused. CM Mamata and Home Ministry have also been informed about the incident.
60-70 personnel of state police and CRPF are deployed for the security of Governor Bose. The Governor enjoys Z+ security.
The incident of threat to Governor Bose has happened at a time when there is a political storm in the state. On January 8, ED raided the premises of TMC’s social media head. CM Mamta has called it politically motivated.
On this, the Governor has said that a person holding a constitutional post is expected to cooperate with the Constitution. Preventing a public servant from performing his duty is a punishable offence.

2023: VC appointment controversy in universities
Governor Bose appointed Vice Chancellors (VCs) in several universities in the state, to which the state government objected. The government alleged that the appointments were made without consulting the state. The Governor said that this is his right under the law. The matter reached the court and the higher education system was affected.
2023-2024: Accused of not approving state bills
The state government alleged that the Governor was delaying approval on several bills. Mamata Banerjee had called it an ‘obstacle in the democratic process’. The Governor’s view was that constitutional scrutiny of the bills is necessary. This further strained government-governor relations.
2023: Comment on MNREGA and central funds The Governor raised questions on alleged irregularities in central schemes including MNREGA. The state government called it politically motivated. Centre-state relations were also affected by the statements of both sides.
2023-24: Governor’s visits to districts
The government objected to the Governor’s visit to the districts and direct communication with the public. The government said that this is like parallel administration. The Governor had called it a constitutional obligation to connect with the public.
2024: Complaints of sexual harassment of female employees
West Allegations of sexual harassment related to Bengal Lok Bhavan came to light, on which the state government demanded investigation and action. The Governor rejected the allegations outright and termed them as political malice. The matter remained limited to political rhetoric, but tension continued to increase.
