1. Summer holidays in Punjab schools from day after tomorrow
Punjab government has declared summer holidays in schools. Holidays will be from June 1 to June 30. These orders for summer vacation will also be applicable to all government, aided and private schools. Orders in this regard have been issued by Education Department Secretary Sonali Giri. Copies of the order have been sent to the concerned departments and officials.
Earlier, the Punjab government had changed the timings of government offices on May 25. The timings of all government offices and service centers in the state have been changed from 7:30 in the morning to 1:30 in the afternoon. Holidays have already been declared in the schools of Chandigarh. There are total holidays of 39 days from 23rd May to 30th June 2026. Now schools in both Punjab and Chandigarh will open regularly from July 1. (Read full news)
2. End of contract system in Group CD jobs, Cabinet approves

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of Punjab has decided to end the contractual system in Group C and D jobs in government departments. This decision was approved in the cabinet meeting held today (May 30). The existing raw employees will be regularized. At the same time, from now onwards there will be only government recruitment in classes three and four. About 1.25 lakh raw employees will benefit from this decision of the government. CM Bhagwant Mann gave this information in the press conference after the meeting.
CM Mann said that the government is going to bring 2 new laws in the Punjab Assembly. These also include the Punjab Outsourced Personnel Bill-2026, under which a provision will be made to bring the outsourced employees working for a long time under the direct recruitment system. It is also raining heavily in Mohali, Ludhiana, Faridkot and Jalandhar. There has been a storm in Amritsar since morning, due to which branches of some trees also broke. It is also drizzling.
Punjab State Disaster Management Authority has predicted very dense fog at many places in Amritsar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Patiala in the next 24 hours. The authority says that if there is an emergency, call 112. According to Meteorological Center Chandigarh, the heat wave will completely end by June 4. (Read full news)
4. Captain opposed making Dhillon the BJP chief

Former CM Captain Amarinder Singh has opposed the appointment of Jatt Sikh leader Kewal Dhillon as the state head of Punjab BJP. The Captain has also expressed displeasure over this decision. In an interview, Captain Amarinder Singh clearly said that in terms of political ability, he is not the right choice to lead the Punjab BJP.

5. RTI activist shot dead in Jalandhar

RTI activist from Jalandhar shot dead. The attackers opened indiscriminate fire near the Law Gate of Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara today (May 30) between 8 am and 10 am. The bullet hit his head, due to which he fell on the ground, after which he did not get up again. DIG Naveen Singla said that after receiving information about the attack, police reached the spot.
During investigation, a pistol, Fortuner and two mobiles were found lying near the dead body on the spot. Apart from this a shell was recovered. Police are now investigating the reason for the murder and the attackers. However, it is being told that the RTI activist was provided with a gunman for security, who was not found on the spot. 6. Parking rates will increase according to timing in Chandigarh, higher fees per hour.

Preparations have started for major changes in the paid parking system in Chandigarh. The Municipal Corporation is going to implement a new system by dividing the parking sites of the city into 4 operational zones. 8. Nursing student from Mohali committed suicide in Faridkot.

A student committed suicide in the hostel of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences in Faridkot. He hanged himself in the hostel at around 2:30 am on Saturday. By the time other students and staff came to know about the incident, she had died. City police reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
The deceased has been identified as Amanpreet Kaur (22), daughter of Gurmukh Singh, resident of Shivjot Enclave, Kharar, Mohali. Amanpreet Kaur was a third semester B.Sc Nursing student at the University College of Nursing. She was living in college hostel. DSP Tarlochan Singh said that the family members of the deceased have been informed. (Read full news)
9. Dead bodies of couple found in locked house in Ludhiana

Dead body of an elderly couple has been found in a locked house in Ludhiana. The relative of the deceased told that at 10.40 in the morning he got a call from his daughter that he was not picking up the phone. Go home and see. We came here to see. My brother-in-law’s son was with me. The gate was closed from inside. The door of the room inside was also closed. Activa and car were standing.
Both had serious injury marks on their heads. Due to which it is suspected that he has been murdered. The bodies of both were lying separately.
