Amidst the floods and devastation in Nepal, earthquake tremors have increased the concern of the people. An earthquake of 3.2 magnitude on the Richter scale was recorded. However, this incident has happened at a time when there is a threat of another flood in the low-lying areas due to the formation of a new lake near the Bhotekoshi river.

Water is continuously accumulating in this lake built near the origin of Bhotekoshi river in Rasuwa district of Nepal. According to information received from China, by Thursday morning about 20 lakh cubic meters of water had accumulated in it. About 30 lakh cubic meters of water is expected to arrive in the next three days. In such a situation, if the lake breaks, there may be sudden flood in the areas below.
Caution advised to those living on river banks
In view of the danger, people living in the lower areas of Bhotekoshi river have been advised to stay away from the river banks. Passengers, security personnel and people involved in relief efforts have also been asked to exercise caution. Officials are constantly keeping an eye on the lake, so that timely action can be taken if the situation worsens.
Glacier breakage due to last flood
Earlier, many doubts had arisen regarding the cause of the flood. Initially it was linked to earthquake. Later, satellite images showed signs of glacier breakage near the Nepal-Tibet border. Investigation revealed that the vibration which was thought to be an earthquake was caused by the breaking of glacier rocks and ice.
After this, heavy debris came down, which affected the course of the river. The strong flow of water engulfed the areas around Bhotekoshi within no time. Now due to accumulation of water in the same area again, the administration is keeping an eye on the situation.
