The flood of Trishuli river in Nepal caused huge devastation. Many vehicles, buildings and people’s belongings were washed away in the strong current. But a 40-year-old green house built on the banks of a river in Nuwakot district escaped almost unscathed. Many nearby buildings and other things were washed away in the strong current of water, but this house remained standing in its place.

After the flood, pictures and videos of this house started spreading rapidly on social media. People were surprised to see the house safe and sound amidst water and destruction all around. On social media, people started calling it ‘miraculous house’ and the biggest question was that how did this 40 year old house survive in such a strong flood.

Now the owner of the house, Prakash has told what happened inside the house that night and why his house was able to survive the strong current of the flood. Prakash spoke to India Today’s sister website The Lallantop at the spot. He told that the family moved towards the upper floors of the house when the water rose and remained stuck in the highest part for about one to one and a half hours.

The green colored house survived safely even amidst severe floods.

The family reached the roof of the house amid the flood

Prakash told that the flood water was rising rapidly and he felt that perhaps this could be the last moment of his life. There were six members of the family at that time, out of which five were present inside the house.

Prakash was at his shop nearby when he got the news of rising flood waters. He immediately reached home and asked the family members to come inside. But as soon as he came out, he saw that the strong flow of water had overturned his car. Seeing this he ran back inside the house.

The family first reached the fourth floor of the house. This was the top floor of the building, but after some time the flood water reached there also. After this everyone went to the highest part of the house.

During this time, Prakash was worried about his son, who had gone to school and was not at home. He said, “Everyone was together, but one of my sons was not there. He had gone to school. I was constantly thinking that if something happened to us, what would happen to him.”

Prakash told that this worry was continuously running in his mind during that dreadful time.

The house got support from a strong foundation

People on social media are surprised that the surrounding buildings were washed away in the flood, but how did this green house survive. According to Prakash, the strong foundation of the house can be a major reason for this.

He told that this house is about 40 years old and due to its location near the river, special attention was paid to the foundation while building it. Two-three layers of material used in making roads were also poured under the house.

However, the lower part of the house could not escape the flood. The goods of his shop were kept there, which got washed away in the water. A large quantity of goods including two vehicles, bikes and scooters were completely destroyed. His shop was being used as a warehouse for the goods.

The family was pulled out with pipes and ropes.

According to Prakash, the family remained trapped in the highest part of the house for about one to one and a half hours. After the water receded a little, people from the nearby toll area arrived to help them.

He placed a pipe between the two buildings and with the help of a rope, he safely transported the family to the other side.
