After the independence of the country in August 1947, the ban was lifted from this song and since then it became a popular patriotic song in India. A day earlier, BSF had thwarted a major attempt to infiltrate suspected militants near the international border in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir. In this BSF action, 7 Lashkar terrorists were killed.
