They are now tracking the activities and timeline of Thomas Crooks before the attack. The FBI has found out in its investigation that the attacker Thomas Matthew Crooks was roaming in the city of Pittsburgh, 53 kilometers from the incident spot, on July 11, 48 hours before the attack.

The FBI has not yet determined why Crooks was there. The next day, July 12, he went to a shooting range where he practiced shooting. According to investigators, Thomas and his father were members of a Clairton Sportsmen’s Club.

Both father and son used to go here to enjoy shooting. The club’s lawyer has also confirmed that the attacker was a member of that club. The shooting club has 2 thousand members. This range is built in 180 acres of forest south of the hills of Pittsburgh. On the morning of July 13, Matthews went to a Home Depot where he purchased a ladder. On the same day, Crooks went to a gun store called Allegheny Arms and Gun Works.

Here he bought 50 rounds of bullets to attack Trump. This shop is in his city Bethel Park itself. The FBI has said that Matthew attacked Trump with these bullets at 6:13 pm on July 13.

How did Matthew reach the place of attack?
After buying the ladder and pills, Crooks got into his Hyundai Sonata car. He drove for the next hour to the city of Butler, Pennsylvania, where thousands of people had gathered to attend Trump’s rally. He parked his car outside the rally.

Speaking to CNN, an official said that Thomas Crooks’ car had an IED installed and he had the transmitter, i.e., the remote control detonator. Crooks had also attended a rally before the attack.

Law enforcement officials said that the attacker was planning to detonate an explosion. However, the motive behind this explosion is also being investigated. Officials believe that the attacker might have tried to distract the attention of the security personnel through this explosion so that he could easily target Trump.

However, it is not yet clear where Crooks got the explosives and equipment found in his car. He learned to make explosives at home, but no evidence of this was found when his browsing history was checked.

Authorities believe Crooks used a ladder he purchased to climb onto the building, from where he shot at Trump.

Pennsylvania police records show that the AR-15 assault rifle Crooks used to attack Trump was purchased in the name of his father, Matthew Crooks. His father has more than 20 guns registered in his name, which were present at his home.

CNN tried to speak to Thomas’ father on Sunday and Monday, but he declined to answer questions. Thomas’ parents are currently assisting with the investigation.
