Ticket sales for India’s 12-match multi-format tour have set a record in the first 48 hours. 26,000 tickets have been sold in just two days in New Zealand Cricket’s ‘Cricket Nation’ pre-sale.
This tour, starting from October, has become one of the tours with the highest initial demand in the history of New Zealand cricket. As soon as the pre-sale started on Monday, fans started clamoring for tickets. There is tremendous excitement especially about India’s white-ball matches.
The biggest fight in Eden Park
Auckland’s famous Eden Park is leading in terms of ticket sales. There is a lot of excitement among the fans about the white-ball matches taking place here. Apart from this, strong demand for tickets has also emerged from Christchurch and Wellington.
Christchurch’s Hagley Oval, which has a capacity of around 9,000 spectators, may soon be housefull for the first two T20 International matches between India and New Zealand to be held on October 22 and 24. The same ground will also host the second and last Test to be held from 27 November to 1 December.
Competition for tickets in Wellington too
Wellington is also not lagging behind regarding India’s matches. The third T20 International and the second ODI will be played here, while the first Test of the series will start from November 19 in the historic Basin Reserve. The sale of tickets for these matches has also been very fast in the initial phase.
New Zealand Cricket’s Chief Marketing and Commercial Officer Glenn Critchley said that fans have taken seriously the appeal to get tickets early.
He said, ‘We had told the fans from the very beginning that they should prepare in advance so that they do not miss out on the tickets. The record sales in the first two days show that many people have listened to us.
Critchley described the matches against India as a special opportunity for New Zealand fans. According to him, cricket lovers in the country will get a great atmosphere and a chance to see some of the world’s biggest players up close during the matches against India.
Ticket prices were also kept under control
New Zealand Cricket has kept the price of tickets for this series the same as the last season. Tickets are available for less than NZ$30 through the ‘Cricket Nation’ access code. Fans participating in the pre-sale are also getting 15 percent discount.
However, the sale of tickets for the general audience has not started yet. The general public sale will start from September 7, which means before that 26 thousand tickets have already been sold.
It is clear from this that the thrill of India’s tour of New Zealand will not be limited to the field alone. There are still about two months left for the series to start, but the battle to get a place in the stadiums has already started. If the initial momentum continues, fans may have to wait a long time for tickets for many matches.
