Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandes on Tuesday withdrew her application from Delhi’s Patiala House Court in which she had sought to become a government witness in the Rs 200 crore money laundering case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had strongly opposed his application. The investigating agency says that Jacqueline is not a victim in this case but has been the main beneficiary of this crime. Why did ED oppose Jacqueline’s application? On Monday, ED had filed its reply in the court. The investigating agency said that Jacqueline’s role in this case is not very small. They have benefited from money raised through money laundering. The ED argued that making Jacqueline a government witness would be a travesty of justice as she had committed serious crimes. The agency termed his application as an abuse of the process of law. Despite knowing about Sukesh, she kept taking gifts worth crores. ED revealed in its reply that Jacqueline remained in touch with Sukesh Chandrashekhar despite knowing about his criminal background. Sukesh had arranged expensive gifts and luxuries for Jacqueline and her family with the proceeds of crime. The agency says that there were constant conversations between the two and Jacqueline was given benefits, which proves that she was part of the conspiracy. Accused of not giving correct information during the investigation, the agency alleged that Jacqueline did not cooperate in the investigation. His statements changed frequently and did not tell the whole truth. According to ED, Jacqueline had initially hidden the facts regarding cash transactions, expensive gifts and funds transferred to bank accounts. His statements have been described as incomplete and contradictory, for which he was repeatedly confronted with evidence. Case related to money laundering of Rs 200 crores: Let us tell you that this entire matter is related to swindler Sukesh Chandrashekhar, who had defrauded the wives of former Ranbaxy promoters Shivinder Singh and Malvinder Singh of Rs 200 crores. Jacqueline was made an accused in the supplementary charge sheet in this case. Earlier, Delhi High Court and Supreme Court had also rejected the petition to quash the case against him.
