The declared assets of Congress President and MLA from Shalteng seat, Tariq Hameed Karra, are worth Rs 148 crore.
After the results of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, the Association for Democratic Reform has presented a report on the assets of MLAs.
According to this report, out of 90 MLAs who won the elections, 84% i.e. 76 MLAs have declared their assets worth Rs 1 crore or more.
In the last assembly of 2014, 75% i.e. 65 MLAs had declared their assets more than Rs 1 crore. The number of crorepati MLAs in this assembly is 9% more as compared to the previous assembly.
Congress President and Tariq Hameed Karra, who won the election from Central Shalteng seat, is the richest MLA. He has declared his assets worth Rs 148 crore. At the same time, the AAP MLA who won the election from Doda has the least assets (29 thousand rupees).
NC has the highest number of millionaire MLAs, 5 points of the report
- 37 out of 42 National Conference MLAs (88%) are crorepatis. The average net worth of NC MLAs is Rs 8.47 crore.
- 25 out of 29 BJP MLAs (86%) are crorepatis. The average assets of BJP MLAs are Rs 14.55 crore.
- All 6 Congress MLAs are millionaires. His average wealth is around Rs 30 crore.
- The average assets of 3 PDP MLAs is Rs 4.25 crore.
- The MLAs who won from CPI(M) and People’s Conference are millionaires. The average assets of 7 independent MLAs are Rs 5 crore.
Assets of 2 MLAs are more than Rs 100 crore Only 2 out of 90 MLAs of Jammu and Kashmir have assets of more than Rs 100 crore. Apart from Congress President Karra, who owns assets worth Rs 148 crore, BJP MLA Devender Rana has assets worth Rs 126 crore. He is the second richest MLA.
14 out of 90 MLAs have assets less than Rs 1 crore. The assets of 27 MLAs are between Rs 1 crore and Rs 5 crore. Whereas, 26 MLAs are in the bracket of Rs 5-10 crore. The net worth of 21 MLAs is between Rs 10 crore and Rs 100 crore.
Average assets of MLAs Rs 11.6 crore The ADR report claims that the average wealth of Jammu and Kashmir MLAs is Rs 11.6 crore. Whereas, the average assets of the MLAs who won the 2014 elections was Rs 4.5 crore. This means that the average wealth of the MLAs this time is more than double that of the last time.

BJP won 29 seats, PDP got only 3 seats In the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly election results declared on October 8, BJP won 29 seats. The party has gained 4 seats compared to the last elections. However, Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina lost to the NC candidate from Nowshera seat by about 8 thousand votes. He has sent his resignation to the party high command.
Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s party PDP has won 3 seats. In the last elections the party had got 28 seats. Mehbooba’s daughter Iltija Mufti, who was contesting elections for the first time, lost from Srigufwara Bijbehara seat by more than 9 thousand votes.
Aam Aadmi Party has registered victory for the first time in Jammu and Kashmir. From Doda seat, Mehraj Malik defeated Gajay Singh Rana of BJP by more than 4500 votes. Whereas People’s Conference won one seat. Aijaz Guru, brother of Parliament attack accused Afzal Guru, got 129 votes from Sopore seat.
