Lovlina gets direct semi-final ticket
Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain has got a bye in the quarterfinals of the women’s 75 kg boxing category. With this she has directly reached the semi-finals. Players who lose both the semi-finals in the Commonwealth Games also get bronze medals, so Lovlina is assured of at least a bronze medal.
There are only 5 boxers in the 75 kg category. For this reason, Lovlina along with Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree and Tuvalu’s Tarona Khanum Badi Pasoni Taafaki got a direct place in the semi-finals. The only quarterfinal of this category will be between England’s Mary-Kate Smith and Nigeria’s Patricia Mbata. Lovlina will face Tafaki in the semi-final on July 31.
Lovlina will also have a chance to forget the disappointment of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. Then she missed the medal by losing to Rosie Eccles of Wales by a close margin of 2-3 in the quarterfinals of 70 kg category.
