An attempt was made to attack former principal of RG Kar, Sandip Ghosh, outside Alipore Court.
A person from the crowd tried to slap Sandeep Ghosh, former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College. The people protesting against him shouted slogans of thief-thief. They also demanded that Ghosh be hanged. After this, the police and central forces brought the situation under control.
Actually, Sandeep Ghosh is accused of financial irregularities in the medical college. CBI is investigating the case on the instructions of the High Court. Ghosh was produced in Alipur Court on Tuesday. During this time the crowd protested against him.
The court has sent Ghosh and 3 other people to CBI custody for 8 days. These people were arrested on 2 August in a corruption case.
After this decision, the West Bengal Health Department issued a notification saying that Sandeep Ghosh is being suspended due to the ongoing legal action against him. Earlier on August 28, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) had cancelled the membership of Sandeep Ghosh.
At the same time, the protest of junior doctors in the rape-murder case of a trainee doctor in the medical college on the night of August 8-9 continues for the 26th day. The protesting doctors are demanding the resignation of Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal.

Centre’s allegation- Bengal government is not providing facilities to CISF posted at RG Kar Hospital
The Central Government has today filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against the West Bengal Government. The Centre has alleged that the Bengal Government is not providing transport and accommodation facilities to the CISF jawans deployed for the security of the RG Kar Hospital.
On the orders of the Supreme Court, 92 CISF jawans have been deployed for the security of RG Kar on 21 August. These include 54 women. They have not even been given a place to keep their weapons. Even after the request of the central government, the Bengal government is not taking any action.
The doctor said- the police is scared of us
The protesting doctors allege that the police have been negligent in the investigation of the rape-murder case from the very beginning. They held photographs of Police Commissioner Goyal and demanded his resignation. After being stopped on BB Ganguly Street, the doctors also burnt the effigy of the Police Commissioner.
A doctor sitting on the protest told news agency PTI – We did not know that Kolkata Police is so scared of us that they will put up a 9 feet high barricade to stop us. Our protest will continue until we are given permission to reach Lalbazar and meet the commissioner. We will sit here till then.
Doctors raised slogans of go back against the BJP MP
Former judge of Calcutta High Court and current MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay reached the protest site on Monday to support the protesters. However, the doctors created a ruckus on seeing him and also raised slogans of go back.
On this, the BJP MP said that those people have misunderstood me, I have come here as a common citizen to support them. I am not against them. Gangopadhyay also appealed to the Police Commissioner to meet the doctors. He said- Why is the Commissioner not coming. They are doctors, not goons.

Former judge of Calcutta High Court and current MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay reached the doctors’ protest on Monday night, but he was strongly opposed there.
Case filed against TMC MLA for calling doctors butchers
On the other hand, a complaint has been filed against TMC MLA Lovely Maitra for commenting on doctors. The TMC MLA had compared doctors to butchers.
TMC MLA Lovely Maitra had said, ‘Doctors are becoming butchers in the name of protest. Poor and deprived people come from remote areas and rural areas of Bengal to government hospitals for treatment. Those who are unable to get treatment in private hospitals are upset. They are not getting treatment. Are they (doctors) human beings? Is this humanity?’
Abhishek Banerjee asked party leaders to refrain from making statements
According to sources, TMC has forbidden its leaders from making such statements. TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee has also warned his party leaders to avoid this.
He wrote in the post on X, ‘I urge all TMC leaders not to speak ill of the medical fraternity or anyone from the society. Everyone has the right to protest and express their views. This is what makes West Bengal different from other BJP-ruled states.’

TMC leader suspended for threatening protesters
Before Lovely Maitra, a video of TMC leader Atish Sarkar went viral in which he threatened the protesters. In the video, Sarkar said, ‘I will make obscene pictures of your mother and sisters and hang them on the door of your house. You will not be able to go out of your house. Be careful, TMC people are on the streets.’ TMC has suspended Atish Sarkar from the party for one year.
