In the 2000s, it was claimed in some Hindi newspapers and media reports that Aditya Pancholi’s ‘Dadagiri’ runs in Mumbai because his wife and actress Zarina Wahab ties Rakhi to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. Aditya Pancholi had expressed strong displeasure on this claim.
In an old interview given in Aap Ki Adalat, he had said, “My wife has been working in the film industry since the age of 17. Not a single finger has been pointed at her till date. She is a Muslim woman. I say, she is pure, she is a goddess.”
He had further said, “It was written about him that he acts as a bully because Aditya Pancholi’s wife Zarina Wahab ties Rakhi to Dawood Ibrahim. Hey idiots, think before writing, does a Muslim tie Rakhi to a Muslim?”
Aditya and Zarina met in 1986
Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab’s love story is one of the most talked about and unique stories of Bollywood. Both of them first met in 1986 on the sets of Nari Heera’s video film ‘Kalank Ka Teeka’. According to Zarina Wahab, Aditya was about 5 years younger than her and she found him very handsome in the first meeting itself.
During the shooting of the film, both of them came closer to each other and fell in love. Their love grew so much that within just 15 to 20 days of their first meeting, they got married in the year 1986. This marriage was also much talked about at that time because Zarina was a Muslim and Aditya was a Hindu.

After marriage, Aditya Pancholi’s name was associated with some actresses, among which his relationships with Pooja Bedi in 1993 and Kangana Ranaut in 2004 were in a lot of controversies.
Zarina’s mother was worried about the relationship
Zarina had told in an interview that her mother was initially very worried about this relationship, because Aditya belonged to another religion and was younger in age. But Zarina, while explaining to her mother, said, “‘Mother, Hindus and Muslims are all the same. You are the one who says that not even a leaf can move without the will of Allah. So such a big decision of my life has been taken by Allah only. It is not I who has taken this decision, but he.'” After listening to Zarina, her family accepted this marriage.
Zarina had told in an interview given to Waves that their marriage took place through Nikah. When asked if Aditya had converted to Islam, he said, “He had not changed religion, but as per Muslim custom he had to change his name, so he did so.”

Aditya Pancholi’s real name is Nirmal Pancholi.
Zarina Wahab had told that her daughter’s name Sana was inspired by the character of a Pakistani show. The son was named Suraj, because his character’s name in one of Aditya’s films was Suraj. There was no discussion in the family about naming the children Muslim or Hindu. Zarina had said that Sana and Sooraj were given the freedom to choose their own religious identity.
