Anna had come in support of Jantar Mantar protest
Anna Hazare, who made his name in the country through anti-corruption movement and hunger strikes, had recently come out in support of the protests at Jantar Mantar regarding the NEET paper leak. He had condemned the alleged police action and violence during the protesters’ march to Parliament on July 20. Anna Hazare had also written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this matter. He had appealed to the Central Government to talk to the protesting students and find a solution to their concerns.
In a letter to PM Modi, Hazare had described the news of violence and police action as ‘sad’. He had said that in democracy there should be no place for violence, damage to public property and unnecessary use of force.
Anna Hazare had also mentioned in his letter the issues related to youth including paper leak, delay in recruitment processes and unemployment. He said that these concerns of the youth should not be seen only as a challenge to law and order. These issues also reflect the widespread dissatisfaction present in the society and the expectations of the youth. Reiterating his commitment to non-violence, he said, ‘I have done 22 hunger strikes in my life and there was never any violence in them.’
