Sheikh Hasina’s son Joy said that the statement being circulated in his mother’s name is false and fabricated.

Sajeeb Wazed Joy, son of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, has claimed that his mother has not made any statement related to the resignation. Joy wrote on social media that the statement issued in the name of his mother in a newspaper is completely false and fabricated.

Joy said, “I have spoken to my mother. She told me that she has not made any such statement before or after leaving Dhaka.” In fact, according to a report, Sheikh Hasina had claimed in a message sent to the media through her close aides that America was behind her removal from power.

According to the newspaper’s claim, Hasina had said that she could have saved her position by giving St. Martin Island and the Bay of Bengal to American control. Now Hasina’s son has denied this claim.

America accused of pressuring to acquire the island
Earlier in June 2021, Bangla newspapers claimed that the US is demanding St. Martin Island from Bangladesh. It wants to build a military base here. After this, Bangladesh Workers Party President Rashid Khan Menon also said in Parliament that the US wants to acquire St. Martin Island.

On May 26 this year, in a meeting of 14 parties, Hasina had said that a conspiracy is being hatched to divide some areas of Bangladesh and Myanmar to make a ‘Christian country’ like East Timor. Before the elections, a ‘white man’ had also offered her that if she allows the construction of an army base within the borders of her country, then elections will be allowed to be held without any problems.

Although Sheikh Hasina did not reveal that country and who that ‘white man’ was, even then the needle of suspicion was pointed towards America.

An island of just 3 km square, settled by Arab traders
St. Martin’s Island, which has created so much commotion in Bangladesh politics, is an island of just 3 square km. Its distance from Myanmar is just 5 miles. According to the Dhaka Tribune, this island was settled by Arab traders in the 18th century. They named it ‘Jazira’. After this, the British government occupied it.

Then this island was named St. Martin Island after the Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong. This island is called ‘Narikel Jinjira’ (Coconut Island) or Daruchini Island (Cinnamon Island) in Bengali language. This is the only coral island of Bangladesh.

Apart from tourism, this island is also important for business. There are 9 villages on this island in which about 3,700 people live. Their occupation is fishing, rice and coconut farming. The farmers here sell their produce to the people of the nearby country Myanmar.

The island of St. Martin is also known as 'Narikel Jinjira' or Coconut Island because of the thousands of coconut trees here.

Geographical position is important, from here one can keep an eye on China and India
The geographical position of St. Martin is very important. According to The Daily Star, if any country builds a military base in St. Martin, it will get an advantage near the Malacca Strait. China uses this route for transport. This island can not only be used to keep an eye on China and Myanmar, but from here we can also find out what India is doing.

Interestingly, Myanmar has also claimed St. Martin’s Island. Even after Myanmar separated from British rule in 1937, this island remained a part of British India. Even after India’s independence in 1947, Britain retained its hold on this island. However, after some time Pakistan took control of it.

Bangladesh gained control over the island after Pakistan’s separation in 1971. According to a report in The Daily Star, in 1974, both Bangladesh and Myanmar had reached an agreement that Bangladesh would have control over St. Martin’s Island.

In 2018, Myanmar declared St. Martin Island as its part in its official map. However, after Bangladesh’s objection, the Foreign Ministry accepted its mistake and removed this map. Earlier, Myanmar soldiers have attacked Bangladeshi citizens in this area many times.

According to reports, the island is also used by Rohingyas to escape from Myanmar and enter Bangladesh.

Claim- Hasina said- I resigned to save the lives of Bangladeshis: Said- If I had given St. Martin Island to America, I would not have lost power, I would have returned to Bangladesh

Six days after resigning from the post of Prime Minister in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina has said that her government has been toppled because of not giving St. Martin Island to the US. According to the Economic Times, Hasina told her close aides, “I did not want to let the number of people killed in the violence of the fundamentalists increase. They wanted to gain power through the dead bodies of the students. But I did not let this happen by leaving the post.” Read full news here…
