‘Search: The Naina Murder Case’ is a crime thriller which may seem simple in appearance, but within it many questions related to power, society and humanity are hidden.

Rohan Sippy has told this story keeping it close to the truth, but the same old tropes and political twists make the series predictable at times.

Still, one thing that remains strong throughout is Konkona Sen Sharma’s stellar performance.

The story of the series revolves around ACP Sanyukta Das (Konkona Sen Sharma), who gets entangled in a major murder case just before her transfer. The dead body of a college girl ‘Naina’ is found in a politician’s car, and the entire incident causes an uproar among the media and public. Sanyukta gets the responsibility of solving the case, but in this journey she seems trapped between her personal relationships, pressure from the system and the truth.

The beginning of the story is interesting, but in the middle parts some old and worn out angles appear. Still, the human aspects and sensitive glimpses of the police keep the series emotionally engaging.

Konkana Sen Sharma once again proves that she doesn’t just play characters, she lives them. The simplicity of his facial expressions and dialogues are the strongest part of this series. Her balance between a strict officer and an emotional mother is worth watching.

Surya Sharma has done a decent job in the character of zealous police officer Jai Kanwal, he seems a bit artificial in the beginning, but later becomes natural.

The rest of the cast like Shiv Pandit, Shraddha Das, Govind Namdev and Irawati Harshe have done their part honestly.

Direction and technical aspects of the series

Rohan Sippy’s direction is solid, he keeps the story grounded. The camera work and background music keep the atmosphere thrilling. However, the script at many places resembles a familiar murder mystery. The politics and media angle makes the story a bit heavy, and the climax does not leave as much impact as expected.
