Along with releasing the budget, the government has also set medal targets for the Olympics. The government aims to make it to the top-10 medal list of the 2036 Olympics and the top-5 countries in the 2048 Olympics.
India Wants to host the 2036 Olympics, while the 2048 Olympics will mark 100 years of India’s independence. India won only 6 medals in Paris Olympics 2024. India was ranked 71st in the medal tally.

Target of 12 to 14 gold in 2036 Olympics
The target has been set to win a total of 30-35 medals including 12-14 gold in 2036 and a total of 90-100 medals including 35-40 gold in 2048.
To achieve this, focus will be on identification of talent, improvement in sports infrastructure, increasing the quality of coaching, sports science and technology.

Target to increase the number of players 10 times
Pandurang Chate, Regional Director, SAI Regional Center Mumbai, said that the objective of the revamped Khelo India scheme is to create a complete sports journey for the players instead of separate schemes.
The target is to increase the budget of the revamped scheme by 8 times. The number of players getting help under the scheme will also be increased 10 times between 2026 and 2031.

30 thousand players will benefit, center will spend 60%
Under the revamped scheme, the expenditure sharing ratio between the Center and the state has been kept at 60:40. There is a plan to support 30 thousand players in this.
SAI Regional Center Mumbai said in a release that the revamped Khelo India scheme will provide an opportunity to strengthen the existing sports eco system of Maharashtra.
