Apart from the controversy of making obscene remarks on parents in India’s Got Latent, there were also allegations against Samay Raina for making fun of a blind newborn in a stand-up comedy show. After the controversy in February, Samay has now publicly apologized on the occasion of his birthday.

Samay Raina posted the story from his official Instagram account and wrote, “Today is my birthday, and instead of just celebrating myself, I want to use this special day to apologize to those who are disabled.”

Samay further wrote, “We, Samay Raina, Vipul Goyal, Sonali Thakkar, Nishant Tanwar and Balraj Ghosh, deeply regret the pain caused by our show. We will be more careful from now on and will try our best to spread awareness about the challenges faced by the disabled community in the society. Your strength inspires us to be better.”

What is the whole matter?

Ranveer Allahabadia had made obscene comments on parents in the February episode of India’s Got Latent show, after which a complaint was filed against him as well as all the people associated with the show. While this case was going on, the NGO accused Samay Raina of making fun of a blind newborn suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) in a stand-up comedy show.

In the petition, the Foundation had told the court that ten months ago, Raina had said in a standup at That Comedy Club – ‘Look, charity is a good thing, it should be done. I was watching a charity where there was a two month old baby who had gone crazy. For whose treatment he needs an injection worth Rs 16 crore.

Samay asked a question to a woman sitting in the show – Ma’am, tell me, if you were that mother and you would have Rs 16 crore in your bank. Once she looks at her husband, she says that inflation is increasing, because there is no guarantee that the child will survive even after that injection. Can even die. Think died after injection. Even worse, imagine that the child was saved after an injection of Rs 16 crores, then when he grew up he said that he wanted to become a poet.

While hearing the Foundation’s petition for the first time, the Supreme Court termed such content as disturbing. Justice Surya Kant had said- We are really troubled by these allegations, we keep such cases on record. We will suggest solutions by involving the concerned persons, then we will see.

Later, Raina was given relief in this matter by saying that he would have to use his identity and social media fan following to spread awareness about disabled people.
