The engine worked for 1,200 seconds i.e. more than 20 minutes. This is a record. of India DRDO Has created this technology on its own. This means that India can now make hypersonic missiles. DRDO of India has created a special facility in Hyderabad which is called SCPT facility. SCPT stands for Scramjet Connect Pipe Testing Facility. Scramjet engine is tested in this.

A major test was conducted at this facility on Saturday. The scramjet combustor was operated for 1,200 seconds. 1,200 seconds i.e. 20 minutes. This is a very long time. Earlier in January, a test of up to 700 seconds was conducted. Now the engine ran successfully for more than double the time.

What technologies were there in it?

This scramjet combustor has many special technologies. First, it used liquid hydrocarbon exothermic fuel. This is a special kind of fuel which India has made itself.

Secondly, high temperature thermal barrier coating was applied in it. This is a protective layer that protects the engine from excessive heat. Third, advanced manufacturing processes i.e. state-of-the-art manufacturing techniques were used.

Where did India take this technology from?

India has created all these technologies on its own. DRDO’s laboratory DRDL designed the engine. Different industries of India made it. Indian universities also helped. All this together became an Indian technology.

What does it mean?

This means that India can now make a hypersonic cruise missile. Cruise missile is a special type of missile which travels very close to the ground and escapes from enemy radar. India’s hypersonic cruise missile can be very dangerous.
