About 342% more was spent on the renovation of 6, Flagstaff Road, the official residence of former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. This has been revealed in the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG). According to the report, initially the estimated cost of this work was around Rs 7.91 crore, but the final expenditure increased to Rs 33.66 crore. Of this, approximately Rs 18.88 crore was spent on expensive interior, decorative and antique items. This report was presented in the Delhi Assembly on Monday. According to the CAG report, serious irregularities like ignoring rules, misuse of funds and huge cost overruns have come to light in the entire project. The staff block was not even built. CAG found that administrative approval of Rs 9.34 crore was given two months after the completion of the renovation work, which is a violation of the rules. This led to a situation of expenditure without permission. The report said that Rs 19.87 crore sanctioned for the staff block and camp office was not utilized properly. The staff block was not built, instead 7 servant quarters were built elsewhere. At the same time, the camp office was made temporary (semi-permanent) instead of permanent and that too remained incomplete. Increased area and changed design During the work, the area of the bungalow was increased from 1397 square meters to 1905 square meters. Also, many expensive and specially designed accessories were installed, which further increased the cost. The work was declared urgent by PWD. Work given to the same contractor, estimate changed four times. The report also revealed that no new tender was issued for additional work and work worth about Rs 25.80 crore was given to the same contractor. PWD revised the estimate four times to adjust the expenditure. The Flagstaff bungalow, where Kejriwal lived as the Chief Minister of Delhi from 2015 to 2024, was named “Sheesh Mahal” by the BJP. The BJP ousted the Aam Aadmi Party from power in Delhi after a decade. The renovation work was allotted at Rs 8.62 crore, 13.21 per cent more than the estimated cost, but it was ultimately completed at Rs 33.66 crore, 342.31 per cent more than the estimated cost, the report said. 8 pictures of the bungalow where Kejriwal lived…
