.
Like every year, this time too Israeli tourists have reached here. However, this time their number is less than before. Whereas earlier 250 to 300 foreign tourists used to arrive during the weekend, now this figure has come down to around 100 to 120.
Meanwhile, ‘Passover’, the main religious festival of the Israeli community, is also going on these days, which is being celebrated starting from 1st April till 9th April. Amidst this festival, these foreign guests are spending their time amidst the peaceful valleys.
Tourists say that they have found peace by coming to these peaceful valleys.

More than 100 Israelis arrived due to Passover
Due to Passover festival, more than 110 Israelis have reached Almora this week. Most of them are staying in Kasar Devi and its surrounding areas, where they are celebrating this festival with their traditional customs.
Every year during this time, a good presence of foreign tourists is seen here, but this time the impact of the international situation is clearly visible. The numbers have remained, but not as crowded as before, which has also affected the local tourism business.

Israeli tourist Oi narrated his ordeal
Oei, a resident of Kachchamona, Israel, who reached Kasar Devi, shared his pain regarding the situation in his country. He said that after the war that started on October 7, 2023, the situation in Israel continues to remain bad and it has become difficult for common people to live a normal life.
Oei said that continuous sounds of bombings and explosions are heard in many parts of the country. Air strikes are taking place in both the northern and southern regions, due to which an atmosphere of fear and insecurity is created among the people. He told that for this reason he and his companions had to leave their country.

‘Earlier up to 300 used to come, now 100-125’
According to Mohan Rayal, city president of Kasar Devi Hotel Association, this time a decline in the number of tourists is clearly visible. He said that earlier during the weekend 250 to 300 foreign tourists used to arrive, but now this number has come down to around 100 to 125.
Mohan Rayal said that the ongoing situation in Israel is the main reason for this. There almost every citizen is associated with the army in some way or the other and they are called back when needed. In such a situation, a large number of people are not able to travel.

What is the Jewish festival of Passover?
Passover is a major Jewish religious festival, deeply connected to their history and faith. This festival is celebrated to commemorate the freedom from slavery in Egypt and gives the message of freedom, faith and collective unity.
During this time ‘Matza’ i.e. unleavened bread has special significance and a traditional meal called ‘Seder’ is organised. Families celebrate this festival by sitting together and remembering the story of liberation in a traditional manner.
Israeli tourists staying in Kasar Devi are also celebrating this festival with the same traditions, due to which the atmosphere here appears culturally different and lively.
