Kim Jong Un’s party has won the parliamentary elections in North Korea. In the election held on March 15, the Workers’ Party of Korea and its allies received 99.93% of the vote and captured all seats. According to state media, voting was 99.99%.

687 deputies of the Supreme People’s Assembly were elected, with only 0.07% of the votes reported in opposition. The first session of the new parliament will soon be held in Pyongyang, in which the election of the country’s top leadership and amendments to the constitution will be discussed. According to reports, a provision to declare South Korea as an enemy country may be added to the Constitution.

It is considered certain that Kim Jong Un will be re-elected as the supreme leader in this session. More than 70% of the MPs have been changed in the elections, which is being seen as a strategy to further strengthen power.

The new list includes Kim Yo-jong, Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui and Kim’s close aide Jo Yong-won, while former Chairman Choe Ryong-hee was removed. However, the Parliament of North Korea is often considered ceremonial.
