Nepal’s new Prime Minister Balendra Shah has taken a big decision as soon as he assumed office. The announcement of providing government jobs to the families of 27 students killed in the September 2025 protests has been implemented. This decision was taken in the first cabinet meeting held after becoming the Prime Minister. Soon after, Nepal Electricity Authority under the Ministry of Energy started the recruitment process. The authority has also issued a notice and released the list of deceased students and their selected family members. According to the notice, one member from the family of every deceased student will be given a job in their own district. Appointment will be on the basis of qualification and skill. Families will have to verify their relationships and obtain appointment letters within 35 days. During the protest on 8 September 2025, 19 students died on the spot in police firing, while 8 others died in the hospital the next day. The movement initially started in protest against the social media ban, but later turned into a broader protest against corruption and the economic crisis. Violence spread across the country during the protests, resulting in the loss of a total of 77 lives. Parliament and many government buildings were set on fire. After this the KP Sharma Oli government fell and new elections were held, in which Balendra Shah came to power.
