A criminal case has been registered against James Komi, former director of US investigative agency FBI, for making false statements and obstructing justice.
The allegation is that Komi lied during testimony before the Senate Committee on 30 September 2020. He had said that he never appointed a journalist as an anonymous source to give information related to Russia investigation. Prosecutors say this statement was contrary to the evidence.
The move has been taken at a time when President Donald Trump recently demanded his Attorney General Palm Bandy to take action against Komi and other political opponents from the recently opened platform.
The collision of Komi and Trump is old. In May 2017, Trump removed him from the post of FBI director. After this, Special Counsel Robert Muller investigated this dismissal as a possible case of obstruction of justice.
