The United Nations General Assembly adopted ‘New York Declaration’ on Friday, taking initiative to revive two-nation resolutions.
142 countries voted in favor of this proposal, including India. 10 countries including the US protested while 12 avoided voting.
Israel rejected the move. Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Oren Marmorastein on Friday wrote on X, “Once again, it has been proved how far the Mahasabha is a political circus from reality, in this proposal, there is no mention that Hamas is a terrorist organization.”
The same, the proposal offered by France and Saudi Arabia condemned the attacks carried out by Hamas on 7 October 2023 and demanded the organization to insert arms and release all the hostages.
It was also said that by ending the Gaza war, the Palestine Authority should take over the reins of Gaza with international cooperation.
French President Emmanuel Macron has formally promised to recognize Palestine at the summit to be held in New York on 22 September.
