NASA has interrupted a mission running on the International Space Station due to the ill health of an astronaut.

NASA has decided to return the four-member Crew-11 crew to Earth in a few days. This is the first time in the 25-year history of the International Space Station that a crew is being returned prematurely due to a medical issue.

The condition of the affected astronaut is now stable, but due to lack of complete investigation and treatment facilities at the space station, it has been considered necessary to bring him to Earth. Due to confidentiality reasons, NASA has not released the astronaut’s name or problem.

The crew reached the space station in August 2025 by launching from Florida on SpaceX’s Dragon capsule and was scheduled to stay for six months. It includes American astronauts Gina Cardman and Mike Finke, Japan’s Kimiya Yui and Russia’s Oleg Platonov.

After the return of this crew, only three astronauts will remain on the station. American Chris Williams, Russian Sergei Mikaev and Sergei Kud-Sverchkov.

Due to health problems, NASA also canceled the first spacewalk of the year 2026, in which Finke and Cardman were to prepare new solar panels for the station’s power system.

NASA Chief Jared Isaacman said in a press conference on Thursday that they are taking rapid steps to protect the astronauts and this decision has been taken for the well-being of the crew.
