BJP sent its MLAs to Paradeep in two buses on Saturday night.
Before the Rajya Sabha elections to be held in Odisha on March 16, BJP has sent 82 of its MLAs to Paradip. The party has taken this step to formulate a strategy in support of state president Manmohan Samal, MP Sujit Kumar and independent candidate Dilip Rai.
After the meeting at the BJP headquarters in Bhubaneswar on Saturday evening, the ministers and MLAs left for Paradip in two luxury buses. According to party sources, all the MLAs will stay in Dilip Rai’s hotel in Paradeep.
Earlier, Congress had also sent eight of its MLAs to Wonderla Resort in Bengaluru. Elections are being held on four Rajya Sabha seats of Odisha, in which BJP is likely to get two seats and BJD one seat.
There is a contest between Dilip Rai and Dr. Datteshwar Hota for the fourth seat. Elections for 37 Rajya Sabha seats in 10 states will be held on March 16 and counting of votes will take place at 5 pm on the same day.
BJP said- will give voting training in Paradeep
Food Supplies Minister KC Patra and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan said the BJP is confident of winning three out of four seats in the March 16 Rajya Sabha elections and the MLAs will be given training in Paradip to ensure that the votes are not invalidated.
BJP Deputy Chief Whip P.K. Deb has been made the authorized agent for voting. A mock drill was also held in the Odisha Assembly on Saturday, because 84 MLAs have been elected for the first time in the 147-member House, hence training was considered necessary.
BJD accused of horse trading
BJD president and former chief minister Naveen Patnaik also called a meeting of party MLAs. He has accused BJP of attempting horse trading. Patnaik had earlier issued a three-line whip to the party MLAs asking them to compulsorily attend the training program on March 13 and 14.
Congress lost contact with its MLA
Congress MLA Dasharathi Gomango from Mohana could not be contacted. Congress legislature party leader Ramchandra Kadam said efforts were being made to contact him. Meanwhile, Congress MLA from Barabati-Cuttack Sophia Firdous expressed displeasure over the party’s decision to support BJD-backed candidate Dr. Datteshwar Hota.
