It has been seven years since the death of Jeffrey Epstein, one of the world’s most famous sex criminals, but the controversy over his property worth billions is not over yet. After new documents from American investigative agencies came to light, it is believed that 37-year-old dentist Karina Shulyak, resident of Belarus, is the biggest claimant to Epstein’s property. According to the documents, before dying, Epstein had left her property worth Rs 959 crore and a 33-carat diamond ring in his will. According to the New York Times, Dr. Shuliak was Epstein’s girlfriend. Epstein also made her last phone call before committing suicide in a New York jail on August 10, 2019. Private emails and photographs of both were released. Dr. Karina Shuliak was trying to live a normal life by staying away from the public eye after Epstein’s death in 2019. But his efforts could not last long. In late January, the US Justice Department released nearly 3 million pages of documents and emails related to Jeffrey Epstein. These records also included thousands of private emails between Dr. Shuliak and Epstein and numerous photographs taken of the two together. After this, their almost 8 year long relationship came in front of everyone. According to records, Belarus-born Shuliak never described herself as a victim of Epstein. At the same time, the FBI also never interrogated him in the Epstein case. Even the lawyers who fought the case on behalf of hundreds of Epstein’s victims never recorded their statements. Had met Epstein at the age of 21. According to investigation records, Dr. Karina Shuliak met Jeffrey Epstein in late March 2011. She was 21 years old then and it had been only nine months since she came to New York. She came to America from Belarus on a temporary student visa so that she could complete her dental studies there. At that time, Epstein had pleaded guilty to prostitution of an underage girl in Florida and was also accused of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls. According to The New York Times, a girl from Siberia had introduced the two. The woman said that from time to time she was asked to bring other young women to Epstein. During their initial meetings, Epstein tried to impress Shuliak with expensive gifts and other privileges. During their very first meeting, he even offered to help her fulfill her dream of becoming a dentist. Epstein used to spend a lot on Dr. Shuliak. Epstein had described Dr. Shuliak as his favorite and often said that he loved him. He had given them complete freedom to make whatever purchases they wanted with his credit card. Both of them traveled together in many countries. Epstein gave him about $ 1 million over several years. Not only this, he had also sent thousands of dollars to his parents living in Belarus. The emails also reveal that in 2012, Epstein helped her get into dental school at Columbia University and agreed to pay her full tuition for three years. Over time, Dr. Shuliak won Jeffrey Epstein’s trust so much that she started helping him manage his properties and employees. Epstein also helped her get a green card. In 2012, Dr. Karina Shuliak applied for admission to Columbia University. By then her student visa had expired and she was staying in America longer than the scheduled time. According to US Justice Department documents, in early 2013, Jeffrey Epstein found a way to keep her in the US. At that time gay marriage was legally recognized in New York. Epstein believed that if Karina was married to an American woman, it would make it easier for her to get a green card and later citizenship. For this, he got Kareena married to one of his female assistants. In an email, Epstein wrote that the fastest way to get a green card is gay marriage. Later, Democratic lawmakers in the US Parliament alleged that Epstein misused the US immigration system. He said that this marriage was shown only on papers. Dr. Shuliak became a US citizen in May 2018 and divorced about a year later. Before his death, Epstein named the property in Dr. Shuliak’s name. Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in July 2019. A month later, he had a last phone conversation with Dr. Shuliak for about 20 minutes. Epstein said the sex trafficking case will last longer than expected. The very next day, on August 10, 2019, Epstein was found dead in his prison. Authorities ruled his death a suicide. According to the documents, Epstein made changes to his will shortly before his death. In a note, he had written about transferring a major part of his then $600 million wealth to Dr. Shuliak. There was also mention of a big diamond ring given with the intention of marriage.
