Ukraine on Thursday carried out the largest ever drone attack on Russia. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, about 1,000 drones and four cruise missiles were shot down overnight. Of these, about 200 drones were moving towards the capital Moscow. In the attack, an oil depot in the southern Rostov region was destroyed by the blast, one person present there died. The Kapotanya Oil Refinery in Moscow was also attacked. After the explosion, the lid of the oil depot tank jumped several meters high and clouds of black smoke filled the sky. According to reports, a nearby shopping center also caught fire. Some residential and commercial buildings were damaged due to falling drone debris. Many tall buildings were evacuated. After the attack, flights at Moscow airports were banned for some time. Zelensky said – If Ukraine burns, Moscow will also burn. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack on Moscow a response to Russia’s action on Kiev last week. He said that the Ukrainian army targeted those bases which are supporting Russia’s war campaign. Zelensky said that now the time has come for Russia to adopt diplomatic path to end the war. He also praised the actions of various military and intelligence agencies of Ukraine. Zelensky said, “We did not want this war, but if Ukraine burns, Moscow will also burn.” Russian President Vladimir Putin was present in Kazan at a summit meeting with leaders of Southeast Asian countries at the time of the attack. He has not yet given any public reaction regarding this major attack on Moscow. Drone attacks on Russian capital increased from 2023 Ukraine’s drone attacks were limited after the war began in 2022. Its drones reached Moscow for the first time in 2023, but at that time only a few drones were used in attacks. Ukraine is now capable of long-range attacks, while Russia has also deployed strong air defenses around the capital. Because of this the war was no longer limited to the frontline only. Both countries are targeting oil depots, refineries and other strategic targets. G7 countries have announced to increase military aid to Ukraine amid the major attack on Moscow. The organization said that Ukraine will be given more air defense systems, interceptors and long-range weapons. Apart from this, restrictions on Russia’s oil and gas business will be made more stringent. G7 countries have also promised to provide additional support for Ukraine’s electricity and energy needs before winter. US President Donald Trump said that he thought it would be easy to end the Russia-Ukraine war, but the deep enmity between the two countries has made negotiations difficult. He said he had good talks with both Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin and that he wants to see an end to this war. ———————–
