The film ‘Jassi Weds Jassi’, based on the backdrop of the 90s, has been released in theaters today. This film brings back that desi simplicity and innocence of the 90s, when humor came from situations and not from artificial punches. The scale is small, but it’s a film made with heart.

Made in the direction of Paran Bawa, this film has Harshvardhan Singh Deo, Rahmat Ratan, Ranveer Shorey, Sikandar Kher, Sudesh Lahiri, Manu Rishi Chadha, Grusha Kapoor in important roles. The length of this film is 2 hours 14 minutes. Dainik Bhaskar has given this film a rating of 3 out of 5 stars.

What is the story of the film?

The story of the film is of 1996 Haldwani. Where Jassi (Harshvardhan Singh Deo) is searching for true love. He meets Jasmeet (Rehmat Ratan), but another Jassi, Jaswinder (Sikandar Kher) comes in their way, and from there begins a comic journey of misunderstandings and confusion.

Along with this comes into the story Sehgal (Ranveer Shorey) and his wife Sweety (Grusha Kapoor), whose marital conflicts and desi domestic drama make the film more interesting. The small town atmosphere and the flavor of the 90s add a different nostalgia to the story.

How is the acting of the star cast?

Harshvardhan Singh Deo is comfortable and honest in his role. Rehmat Ratan looks very natural on screen and her expressions give freshness to the film. Ranveer Shorey’s timing is sharp as always and he becomes the real reason for laughter in many scenes.

Sikandar Kher’s entry seems a bit serious, but going forward his comic tone gives a good surprise. Sudesh Lahiri and Manu Rishi Chadha add a down to earth flavor of desi humor to the film. Grusha Kapoor looks very real in every scene.

How is the direction and technical aspects of the film?

Paran Bava has been directed well and honestly. He has kept the comedy very natural in the film and has shown funny scenes well at many places. But the film also has some weaknesses. The first part moves a bit slow and the story takes time to start. Some scenes seem repeated again and again. The editing could have been a little tighter.

Some of the jokes don’t work, although many of the comic situations are quite good. At some places the scenes are cut suddenly, which breaks the pace of the film. The back story of the characters is very limited and if there had been a little more depth in the initial bonding of Jasmeet-Jassi, the emotional impact would have been greater. There is a little too much drama in the climax, which makes the ending seem a bit heavy amid the light-hearted story.

Still, the Ramleela scene is the funniest moment of the film. Creative, funny and very entertaining. The art direction and locations reflect the 90s atmosphere of Haldwani well.

How is the music of the film?

The music of the film is its biggest strength. Chamkila, Make Up Na Laaya Kar, Bhool Jawanga and Ishq-e-Desi, these four songs seem to be a part of the story and not a burden. These have both the sweetness of the 90’s and the freshness of today. Some tracks are already popular on social media.

Final Verdict, watch or not?

Jassi Weds Jassi is not a big or grand comedy. It’s a short, honest and heartfelt film, full of nostalgia, desi humor and the gentle warmth of relationships. The first half of the film is loose, some of the jokes are average, and the technical scope is limited, but the second half of the film picks up and leaves a smile in the end.
