Right now the wholesale price of milk has increased. Retail milk available to the common consumer may be sold at a different price than this.
Before the festive season, the people of Mumbai have been hit by inflation. Bombay Milk Producers Association (BMPA) has announced an increase in the price of bulk milk by ₹ 9 per liter.
The new price will be applicable from September 1. After this, the wholesale milk price in Mumbai and surrounding metropolitan areas will increase from ₹ 93 to ₹ 102 per liter.
This new price will be applicable for the next 6 months i.e. till 28 February 2027. According to the association, this is one of the largest outright increases in milk prices in recent years.
Expenses for fodder, transport and animal care increased
Dairy farmers and stable operators have cited rising production costs as the main reason behind increasing the price of milk. In the last one year, the prices of things like green fodder, cake and cake essential for animals have continuously increased.
Apart from this, the cost of transportation of milk, care of animals and operation of stables has also increased. Due to rising costs, economic pressure was increasing on milk producers.
Retail milk to sweets will be affected
The cost of bulk milk is likely to have a direct impact on the common customers of Mumbai. Local milk sellers, dairies and home delivery suppliers can charge increased prices from customers from September 1.
At some places, the retail price may increase slightly more than the wholesale increase. Its effect will not be limited to milk only. Due to milk becoming expensive, the prices of curd, cheese and other dairy products may also increase.
Due to large consumption of milk during the festive season, costs at sweet shops, bakeries and food shops will also increase. In such a situation, the prices of sweets and other milk products are likely to increase during festivals.
