Haryana’s connection with Marathas
During the battle of Panipat, there was a war between the Marathas and the Mughals. Historians say that since then many Marathas settled in Haryana. His descendants are living here till today. The road community of Haryana calls itself Maratha. They mainly live in Panipat, Karnal, Sonipat, Kaithal and Rohtak.
The total population of Road Marathas in Haryana is around 6 to 8 lakh. ‘Road Maratha Jagriti Manch’ in Haryana has also built hostels in Karnal and Panipat for the youth of its community. Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvindra Kalyan also comes from the road community.
