Attackers ran towards Myanmar border

In a separate incident, suspected militants entered ‘Ningcho’ village of Tangkhul Naga settlement near the Myanmar border in Kamjong and started firing. Two people died after being shot, identified as Ngachanso Ningshen, 35, and Leshishan Leshdang, 48.

After the incident, security forces reached the village and brought the situation under control. Villagers claim that after the firing the attackers fled towards Myanmar.

The district administration imposed prohibitory orders under Section 162 of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) within 400 meters of the Chasad police gate junction to prevent further violence.

7–11 February: Ukhrul violence erupts over minor dispute

A fight broke out between two Tangkhul Nagas and two Kuki youths on the night of 7 February in Litan area of ​​Ukhrul district. The next day the vacant house of a Kuki family was set on fire. After the demand for handing over the accused, tension increased, stone pelting and firing took place. Many houses were burnt and the administration took measures like curfew and internet ban.

24–25 April: Three killed in firing

At least three people were reported dead in two separate firing incidents near Sinakithel and Mullam villages of Ukhrul. These included a person from Tangkhul Naga community. This further increased the tension between the two communities.

7–8 May: Attacks and arson on the villages of Ukhrul and Kamjong.

Several incidents of firing and arson took place in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. At least six people were reported injured. Attacks and arson on up to 15 houses were reported in three villages of the Tangkhul Naga community near the India-Myanmar border.

Late August: 7 people died

According to Human Rights Watch, at least seven people were killed in violence between the Naga and Kuki-Jo communities in late August. The total death toll in this conflict, which began in February, was reported to be 34 by the beginning of September.

September: Scope of violence increased

By the end of September reports noted more than 50 deaths in the Naga–Kuki conflict. Due to the violence, the process of retaliation between the two communities and the challenge to the security system increased.
