Bodies of six civilians have been recovered in Leilon Vafei village during a joint search operation by security forces in Manipur. It is being told that these bodies are most likely to be those of the six Naga civilians missing since May 13, who were taken hostage while returning from Konshakhul. When the villagers came to know about the discovery of the dead body, they surrounded JNIMS. Police fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.

According to the police, a team of about 450 security personnel along with forensic experts searched every corner of the affected area. After almost 24 hours of continuous hard work, the bodies of these six civilians were found on Wednesday afternoon, after which legal formalities were started.
There was an uproar after the dead body was found
Officials associated with the search operation said that the bodies recovered were badly mutilated and decomposed, making them impossible to identify just by looking at them. When the bodies were brought to JNIMS and RIMS Hospital in Imphal for forensic examination and DNA test, a large number of relatives of the deceased and people of the Naga community gathered there and gradually the crowd was becoming furious. After this, the police set up barricades and released tear gas shells to control the crowd.
People went missing on May 13
Family members and community organizations have identified the six missing Naga men as Manu Thiumai, Kenpibou, Fenrongwi Thiumai, Dilip Thiumai, Kaliwangbau Abonmai and CH Fenrilung. All these people were returning from Konshakhul on May 13, when they suddenly went missing near Leilon Vafei village of Kangpokpi district, after which no trace of them could be found.
This entire matter is related to the caste violence that broke out in some parts of Noni and Kangpokpi districts on 13 May. Four civilians, including three church leaders and a Naga man, were killed that day. After this, due to increasing tension between the two communities, the opposing groups took a total of 48 citizens of Naga and Kuki communities hostage. Just two days later, 14 hostages from both sides were released.
Kuki organization expressed condolences
United Naga Council (UNC) President Ng Lorho said that they had unconditionally released the 14 Kuki civilians they had captured on humanitarian grounds, as the government had assured to find the Naga hostages. Top Kuki organization ‘Kuki Inpi’ after the body was found Manipur‘ (KIM) has also expressed deep sorrow and has strongly demanded an impartial legal investigation into the matter.
NIA will investigate the case
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has issued a statement strongly criticizing the abduction and killing of innocent Naga villagers by suspected armed militants. He said that the government will not tolerate such cruel acts at all. Considering the sensitivity of the matter, the state government has handed over the investigation of this entire kidnapping and murder case to NIA.
The Chief Minister has also strongly condemned the murder of an innocent farmer of Lansan Kuki village under Tamei police station area of Tamenglong district by suspected miscreants yesterday.
On Wednesday evening, as soon as the news of the finding of bodies of six Naga hostages spread, a furious mob set fire to two trucks in Senapati district. However, there has been no casualty in this arson.
