Mahayuti alliance has decided the distribution of seats for the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. Under the agreement, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will field candidates on 137 seats and Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) on 90 seats. Both the parties will also give seats to their allies from their respective quotas. BJP and Shiv Sena candidates will file nominations on Tuesday.

Mumbai BJP President Amit Bhaskar Satam gave information about seat sharing. He said that consensus has been reached on all 227 seats and the alliance will conduct joint campaign in the coming days. Satam said that initially consensus was reached on 207 seats, later the decision was taken on all 227 seats.

Earlier, Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal had said that BMC will contest on 62 out of 227 seats under the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) alliance. He said that for Congress this election is not a fight for power and seat distribution is not the primary issue.

Maharashtra State Election Commission has announced elections for 29 municipal corporations of the state – Mumbai, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Voting in 227 wards of Mumbai will be held on January 15 and counting of votes is scheduled for January 16.
