World famous Buddhist religious leader Dalai Lama turned 91 on Monday. On this special occasion, a grand ceremony was organized at the main Tibetan temple ‘Tsuglakhang courtyard’ of his temporary residence in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh. Hundreds of Buddhist followers from India and abroad, tourists and local Indian citizens enthusiastically participated in the event organized by the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) and the local Tibetan community. PM Modi wrote, Happy birthday to Dalai Lama. His message of peace and harmony has been a guiding force for people around the world. His moral and spiritual strength and his commitment to global welfare are admirable. I wish him a long and healthy life.” The program started with the national anthem and a special prayer. Kangra’s Deputy Commissioner (DC) Hemraj Bairwa attended the function organized in Dharamshala as the chief guest. The program was formally started with the national anthems of India and Tibet. After this, a special prayer meeting was organized wishing the long life and good health of the Dalai Lama and the cake was cut. Artists from the Tibetan Performing Arts Institute graced the occasion, while Khenpo Sonam Tenfel, acting Tibetan Parliament Speaker and Sikyong Tsegyal Drani read out official messages from the Parliament and the Kashag (Cabinet) respectively. Several civil servants of the CTA were also honored for their services.
