Some Bangladeshi cow smugglers kidnapped a BSF jawan on the India-Bangladesh border in the early hours of Saturday. The cattle smugglers took advantage of the dense fog and took the young man along.

However, later the miscreants handed over the soldier to Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB). After talks between the two countries, the process of bringing back the soldier has been started.

The incident took place at around 4:45 am on Saturday morning on the India-Bangladesh international border in Mekhliganj area of Cooch Behar district of West Bengal. According to BSF sources, the name of the jawan is Bed Prakash. He is posted in the 174th battalion of BSF and is attached to Arjun Camp.

BGB has assured that the condition of the jawan is fine and no harm has been caused to him. (file photo)

BSF soldiers had gone to chase away the cattle smugglers.

While on duty, the soldiers noticed that a herd of cattle had entered Indian territory from an empty part of the border. While chasing the smugglers, Bed Prakash went ahead of the rest of the soldiers.

During this time, he got separated from his group due to dense fog. Taking advantage of the opportunity, Bangladeshi criminals kidnapped them and took them to Bangladesh along with their cattle.

As soon as information about the incident was received, the BSF Sector Commander contacted BGB. BSF was informed by Bangladesh that Indian soldiers are safe and are currently present in BOP Angarpota.

According to BSF officials, flag meetings and diplomatic level talks are going on to bring the jawan back to India safely.
