After the violence in Bangladesh, former PM Sheikh Hasina left the country and came to India on August 5.
Foreign Minister Mohammad Tohid Hussain in the interim government of Bangladesh said that his government is not happy with the statements coming from India. The statements issued by Sheikh Hasina were also not correct. He has also conveyed this to the High Commissioner of India.
In an interview to news agency Reuters, Hussain said, “The government can demand the extradition of Sheikh Hasina from India. There are many cases registered against Hasina. In such a situation, if the Home Ministry decides to bring her, then this will be demanded. This can also create an embarrassing situation for India. I think the Indian government knows this and they will take the right steps.”

Sheikh Hasina reached Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad from Dhaka with her sister on the evening of August 5.
‘Rohingya problem is not Bangladesh’s responsibility’
On the issue of Rohingya community, Hussain said that Bangladesh is not responsible for dealing with this problem. India is a big country. If it wants to give them shelter, it can. We have given shelter to lakhs of Rohingyas. But the main goal is their return to Myanmar.
We cannot allow more Rohingyas to enter Bangladesh. The issue of Rohingyas is related to humanitarian crisis. Not only Bangladesh but the whole world is responsible for this. We have done our part to help.
80 cases registered against Haseena, 65 cases of murder
After the violence in Bangladesh, former PM Sheikh Hasina came to India on 5 August. She resigned from her post. After this, more than 80 cases have been registered against Hasina so far, out of which 65 cases are related to murder. On 22 August, the interim government also canceled the diplomatic passports of Hasina and her family members.
Bangladeshi media house Dhaka Tribune quoted Indian government sources as saying that according to India’s visa policy, if a Bangladeshi citizen does not have an Indian visa, he can stay here only for 45 days. It has been 27 days since Sheikh Hasina came to India. In such a situation, legally she can stay in India only for 18 more days.

Anti-government protests started in Bangladesh on 16 July 2024.
What is the extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh?
Under the extradition agreement signed in 2013, both countries can demand the return of fugitives taking refuge in each other’s countries. However, there is a catch in this that India can refuse to extradite a person in cases related to politics.
However, if the person has serious cases registered against him like murder and kidnapping, then his extradition cannot be stopped. According to the amendment made in the agreement in 2016, the country seeking extradition does not even need to provide evidence of the crime. For this, a warrant issued by the court is enough. This increases the problems for Hasina.
More than 1000 people died in the violence
Noor Jahan Begum, head of the Health Ministry in the interim government of Bangladesh, said on August 29 that more than 1 thousand people were killed in anti-government protests. At the same time, more than 400 people lost their eyesight. Many have lost vision in one eye and many have lost vision in both eyes. Anti-government protests started in Bangladesh on 16 July 2024. This was the largest anti-government protest in the country since 1971.
