Prime Minister Modi will leave for the East Asian country Brunei today. This will be the first visit of an Indian PM to Brunei. The two countries will complete 40 years of diplomatic relations in 2024.

PM Modi is visiting Brunei at the invitation of Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah. The purpose of this two-day visit is to enhance mutual relations between the two countries in various fields.

The Ministry of External Affairs had issued a statement on Friday saying that Brunei is an important partner in terms of India’s Act East Policy and its vision of Indo-Pacific.

Semiconductors: India to discuss expansion in semiconductor sector with Brunei.

Hydrocarbons and Natural Gas Imports: India is importing hydrocarbons from Brunei and is trying to increase the supply of natural gas. This issue will also be discussed during PM Modi’s visit.

Bilateral Trade-Investment: India has invested $270 million in Brunei’s hydrocarbon sector. This can be expanded further to meet its natural gas requirements.

Apart from this, there will also be discussion on efforts to increase mutual cooperation between the two countries on space technology and health. India will discuss the situation in Myanmar.

India will focus on increasing cooperation with Brunei in areas such as maritime security and regional stability. India is engaged in efforts to strengthen partnerships with Southeast Asian countries.

Through this, India wants to counter China’s growing dominance in the Indo-Pacific. Brunei is a country with a maritime border. The country’s northern border touches South China. Brunei also has a dispute with China over the South China Sea.

The Sultan of Brunei lives a luxurious life
Bolkiah is the 29th Sultan of Brunei. He has also been the Prime Minister of Brunei since the British left in 1984. Bolkiah is the longest-reigning king after Queen Elizabeth II. He celebrated his Golden Jubilee in 2017 after ruling for 50 years.

In a small country like Brunei, the Sultan is not only the most powerful person but also one of the richest monarchs. He was the richest person in the world until 1980. According to Forbes, Bolkiah’s net worth was Rs 1.4 lakh crore in 2008.

The Sultan’s luxury can be judged from the fact that after becoming the king, he built a palace worth Rs 50 billion. This palace is known as “Istana Nurul Iman”.

The King of Brunei is the owner of immense wealth. He gets all the government facilities and does not even have to pay taxes.

The population of Brunei is 4.82 lakh, but only selected people have the right to enter the palace.

After Brunei, PM Modi will leave for Singapore tour
After completing the Brunei tour, Prime Minister Modi will visit Singapore on 4 and 5 September. During this he will also hold a bilateral meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. PM ​​Modi is visiting Singapore after nearly 6 years.

During the visit, PM Modi will also meet the President of Singapore. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi will also meet the business leaders of Singapore. During this, formal talks can also take place with them.
