Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton in an interview to British media LBC
Former US National Security Advisor John Bolton said on Thursday that the earlier close friendship between US President Donald Trump and PM Narendra Modi is now over.
In an interview to the British media LBC, Bolton criticized Trump’s policy, saying, “The White House has pushed the US-India relations back decades, causing Modi to come close to Russia and China. China has introduced itself as an alternative to the US and Trump.
Bolton described it as a big mistake. He said- it cannot be corrected now, because the situation is very bad.
Trump’s friendship will not be able to save from bad conditions
In an interview to the British media LBC, Bolton said-
There was a very good relationship between Trump and Modi, but now that friendship is over. This is a lesson for all leaders like British Prime Minister Kir Stmper, that good friendship with Trump can sometimes help, but it will not save you from bad conditions.
Bolton’s warning came before Trump’s visit to Britain. Trump will be on a UK tour from 17 to 19 September.
50% tariff on India, America’s ‘huge mistake’
Earlier in August, Bolton had described the decision to impose a total tariff on India as a ‘huge mistake’ in an interview to CNN. He has expressed apprehension that the extra tariff imposed on India to weaken Russia does not turn upside down.
He had said that America was trying for many years to keep India away from Russia and China, but now that effort has weakened.
India has 25% extra tariff in applicable from 27 August. With this, the cool tariff on India has increased to 50%.
Bolton said- Putting a similar tariff on friend-enemy ‘mistake’
Bolton wrote in the American newspaper The Hill that the White House is showing more softening towards China in tariffs and other terms, which is a serious mistake.
According to him, the trust and confidence of America have weakened the trust and confidence of America, which took decades to make, and in return have received very little economic benefits, while the risk of major loss has increased.
Bolton has been critics of Trump’s policies
Bolton was a National Security Advisor in the US government during Trump’s previous term. They have been constantly criticizing Trump’s policies for the last few months. He said last month that the US government is looking at business and security issues differently, while both things are connected to countries like India.
US foreign policy expert Christopher Padila also warned that these tariffs could harm Indo-US relations for a long time. India will always look at America with suspicion and will never forget these tariffs.
