An Indian-origin woman and her Nepali-American friend died in an accident in New York, America. Both were 24 years old. They were sitting on the railway tracks at a subway station in Lower Manhattan. Meanwhile, a train passing by crushed both of them. In a video that surfaced on social media, both are seen sitting peacefully on the track seconds before the train arrived. According to media reports, the train operator told that he had seen the woman laughing. She was pulling her friend towards herself. Train operator said- Tried to apply emergency brake. This incident happened at Spring Street subway station. According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), Malaika Chitre, a resident of Dayton, New Jersey, and Navam Kaul, a resident of Sayreville, were on the track at around 3:15 pm. During this time the train hit both of them. Meanwhile, a passerby made a video of the incident. The train operator said that he tried to apply emergency brakes, but the train could not be stopped in time. According to the police, both of them died on the spot. According to New York Daily News, about 100 passengers present in the train were evacuated safely after the accident. Investigation is going on as to why they sat on the track. It is not yet clear why Malaika and Navam were sitting on the railway track at midnight. The investigation into this matter is ongoing. According to the New York Post, investigators are also investigating whether either of them had consumed alcohol or any other intoxicant. It is possible that they may not have realized the danger in time. No suicide note has been found from the spot. However, investigators have not completely ruled out the possibility of suicide. Both friends were from the same university. Malaika Chitre worked as an operations specialist in a pharmaceutical company. Navam Kaul was a financial data analyst at software company Bloomberg. Both attended Rutgers University in New Jersey and graduated around the same time. Navam’s friends said – there was no reason for the wrong step. Navam Kaul’s friends and acquaintances described him as a friendly and cheerful person. According to people, he was well liked in his community. The mother of one of Navam’s friends told the New York Post that both of them grew up in the same environment. They were part of the same group of friends and the South Asian community. Everyone used to roam together and celebrate festivals. According to him, there was nothing in Navam’s life that would suggest that he could take any wrong or stupid step. He told that Navam was of Nepali origin. His parents immigrated to America from Nepal about 30 years ago. Malaika’s neighbor said – she was very smart and intelligent. A neighbor living near the house of Malaika’s family said that she was a very smart and intelligent student. The neighbor told the New York Post that he was very sad to hear the news of Malaika’s death. He still doesn’t understand why both of them were on the railway track.
