There was a queue of vehicles at the petrol pumps of Narmadapuram on Tuesday evening. The situation was such that petrol and diesel could be available after waiting for two hours. Operators say that this situation arose due to less supply from the petroleum company. There are total 8 pumps within Narmadapuram and within a radius of 3-4 kilometres. The supply of petrol and diesel has been stopped for the last two days at 3 pumps including the Police Welfare Pump of the city. At the same time, on Tuesday evening, plain petrol ran out at the Bharat Petroleum pump near the BJP office. However, oil is available at petrol pumps located outside the city. In Narmadapuram, the price of plain petrol is Rs 114.67 while the price of speed petrol is Rs 124.05 per liter. In such a situation, vehicle owners were forced to pay costlier speed petrol by about Rs 10 per litre. On the other hand, District Food and Supplies Officer Neeta Kori said – There is no shortage of petrol and diesel in Narmadapuram. In such a situation, information about why this situation arose is being taken from the operators. See, three pictures… Operator said – vehicles are not coming from the depot. Daily consumption of petrol at Bharat Petroleum pump is 7 thousand litres. Its operator Iqbal Ali said – Due to Sunday being a holiday, there was a delay in the arrival of the train from the depot. The tanker is likely to arrive by tonight. At the same time, the staff of Police Welfare Pump said that tankers are not reaching the depot on time, due to which the stock of petrol and diesel has been exhausted. Limited fuel has been kept only for emergencies. The tanker is likely to reach tomorrow morning. Prices have increased four times in a month. Oil companies have made petrol costlier by ₹ 2.61 per liter and diesel by ₹ 2.71 per liter across the country on Monday itself. Due to this, rates in Madhya Pradesh have increased by Rs 3. The first increase this month was on May 15. This is the fourth increase after the increase on May 25. Petrol and diesel have become costlier by about Rs 8 per liter in all four times. Know when the rates increased this month. Side effects of diesel becoming expensive. Why did the prices of petrol and diesel increase? The main reason for this increase is the fluctuations in crude oil prices in the international market. Before the Iran-America war, crude oil was at $70 per barrel, which has now crossed $100 per barrel. Oil companies were under pressure due to rising crude prices. Therefore, companies took this step to compensate for the losses. If the prices of crude oil continue to rise for a long time, the prices of petrol and diesel may increase further. The price increases up to four times the base price. Fuel prices in the country are decided on the basis of crude oil prices in the international market and the position of the rupee against the dollar. Government oil companies update new rates every day at 6 am under ‘Daily Price Revision’ i.e. Dynamic Pricing System. Many taxes and expenses are added to the price of oil before it reaches the consumer. It can be understood in simple language like this: 1. Price of Crude Oil (Base Price): India imports about 90% of its crude requirement from abroad. The price per liter of oil is decided according to the barrel purchased from the international market. 2. Charges of refining and companies: Crude oil is cleaned in refineries to make petrol and diesel. This includes refining costs and margins of companies. 3. Central Government’s Excise Duty: After it comes out of the refinery, the Central Government imposes excise duty and road cess on it. It is the same in all states. 4. Dealer Commission: A fixed commission of dealers is added to the rate at which oil companies sell fuel to petrol pump owners. It is different for petrol and diesel. 5. State Government VAT: Lastly, state governments impose VAT or local sales tax. Due to different VAT rates in each state, fuel prices vary in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. VAT is higher in Madhya Pradesh compared to other states. Therefore, petrol and diesel are cheaper in the border districts of Uttar Pradesh, while they are costlier in Madhya Pradesh. Prices had not increased since 2024, there was a cut before the elections. The prices of petrol and diesel in the country were stable since March 2024. Before the Lok Sabha elections 2024, the government had given relief by reducing it by ₹ 2 per liter. Technically, fuel prices in India are regulated. Companies can change rates every day based on the 15-day average price of international crude, but these were not changed for a long time due to political sensitivity. Oil companies suffer a loss of Rs 30,000 crore every month. According to the government, government companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum were incurring losses due to high prices of crude oil. According to Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary, Petroleum Ministry, companies are incurring a loss of around ₹30,000 crore every month on the sale of petrol, diesel and LPG.
