Flood alert has been issued due to the Yamuna river approaching the danger mark of the Yamuna river in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. After the release of 3.29 lakh cusecs of water from Hathinikund barrage in Haryana, the Delhi government has increased vigilance. The water released from Hathinikund barrage will reach Delhi from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, which is expected to reach the water level of Yamuna river to 206 meters. In view of the rising water level, an order has been issued to stop traffic on Old Yamuna Bridge.
Delhi Giving assurance on the situation, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that the government is fully ready and flood water will be limited to the floodplain of Yamuna. The Chief Minister said, ‘Drains have been cleaned on a war footing in the last six months, due to which all blockages have been opened. Today all the gates of the barrage are open and the flow of water is smooth. 3 lakh cusecs of water has been released, due to which the water level of Yamuna can be 207 meters or more. During the Aam Aadmi Party government, the water level of Yamuna reached 208.66 meters in 2023, causing heavy floods.
Will not reach the main roads of Delhi flood: CM
The Chief Minister clarified that due to settlements in the flood areas of Yamuna, people living there may have trouble, but water will not reach the main roads outside the flood areas. He assured the people of Delhi, saying, ‘We are monitoring the situation every hour. Currently the water level of Yamuna is 205.6 meters. Our teams are completely cautious. According to Delhi’s Irrigation and Flood Control Department, the water released from Hathinikund barrage reaches Delhi in 48 to 50 hours. The department has advised people living in low -lying areas to visit safe places.
38,900 cusecs of water has been released from Wazirabad barrage, and the water level of Yamuna can reach near 206 meters by Tuesday evening, which is the level of withdrawal. CM Rekha Gupta Told that this year the preparations for the flood are stronger than before. Cleaning of drains, inspection of pump houses, and mobile pumps have been deployed. He said, ‘Taking a lesson from the flood of 2023, we started preparing this time in advance.’
