On the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima (Vesak), a grand prayer ceremony was organized at the famous Kalachakra Temple in Dharamshala on Friday, 1st May. Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama himself was present on this special occasion. He performed special prayers for world peace, mutual brotherhood and welfare of all living beings. During the ceremony, monks from Namgyal Monastery performed religious rituals according to Tibetan tradition. Amidst the sounds of traditional musical instruments, special prayers were offered to commemorate the birth, attainment of enlightenment and Parinirvana of Buddha Shakyamuni. During this period, an atmosphere of deep spiritual peace and devotion prevailed in the entire temple complex. Reading Buddhist teachings is not enough, put them into practice. Addressing the global Buddhist community, the Dalai Lama said that the light of knowledge spread by Lord Buddha 2500 years ago is equally relevant for the world even today. Inspiring his followers, he said that we should not become Buddhists in name only, but ‘Buddhists of the 21st century’. According to him, merely listening or reading the teachings is not enough. It is essential to meditate deeply on the Buddha’s messages and put them into practice. Compassion and non-violence are the only path In his address, the Dalai Lama emphasized the principle of ‘dependent origin’ and said that the greatest religion is not to harm any living being. He said that the solution to the global challenges of the present time is possible only by following the path of compassion and knowledge. He expressed confidence that only when people make Buddha’s teachings a part of their daily lives, a happy and humane world will be created. Blessings to the entire world: At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Dalai Lama congratulated all Buddhist followers on Buddha Purnima. He extended his good wishes to all humanity and prayed that this path of compassion may bring peace to every heart.
