After the accident, the administration has banned cruise operations across the state. The services of three people including the cruise pilot, helper and ticket counter in-charge have been terminated.
A high level committee has been formed to investigate the matter. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has said that the culprits in this case will not be spared under any circumstances.

A cruise full of tourists of MP Tourism sank in the Bargi Dam built on the Narmada River in Jabalpur at around 5 pm on Thursday evening. There were about 47 tourists on board, whereas tickets were issued for only 29 people.
The accident happened about 300 meters away from the shore. At the time the cruise sank, the wind speed was about 74 kilometers per hour. According to Bargi City CSP Anjul Mishra, SDRF rescued many people, but the relief work was affected due to strong wind, darkness and bad weather.

This negligence came to light in the accident
1: Sealed packs found in life jacket cabin
In the Bargi cruise accident, the negligence of the administration resulted in 5 more dead bodies. That means a total of 9 confirmed deaths. Looking for 4 more. On Friday, the layers of the accident started peeling off. Despite the Orange Alert of the Meteorological Department, the passengers were boarded without life jackets.
Roshan Anand, who survived the accident, said that no passenger was given a life jacket while boarding the cruise. As the cruise wobbled, people kept running here and there for half an hour. All the life jackets were kept sealed packed in the cabin, which the passengers somehow took out and started wearing.
2: Rescue team’s vehicle broke down, two hours delay
The cruise capsized in a storm at 6 pm. After the information at 6:15, the team left at 6:40, but the vehicle did not start. Resources were shifted to another vehicle. The second team left at 7 o’clock, delaying the rescue by more than two hours.
Meanwhile, local farmers, fishermen and employees evacuated more than 15 people to try their level best. Following the instructions of CM, the NDRF team left from Agra late in the night. The NDRF team took charge at 5 am on Friday morning. Took out 5 dead bodies.
NDRF recovered 5 more bodies on Friday morning. After this, the deaths of 9 people were confirmed.
3: 10-hour rescue operation by Jal Nigam team
The most important ground response at the incident site was that of Jal Nigam officer Alok Tiwari and his team. Alok Tiwari told that as soon as the information was received, he immediately left with the team. On reaching the spot, we saw that the cruise had completely sunk and there was darkness and chaos all around.
He said that machines like JCB, Poklane and cranes were immediately installed. Continuous operations were carried out to rescue people trapped under water. Working amidst strong wind and darkness was extremely challenging. The rescue went on non-stop for about 10 hours. Many people were evacuated in coordination with the local police.
4. There will be a ban on cruise operations in the entire state, there will be a safety audit.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has taken a major administrative decision in the entire state after the accident. All cruise, motor boat and water sports activities have been stopped in Madhya Pradesh with immediate effect.
Safety audit of all water transport means has been made mandatory. Permission to operate will be given only after reviewing safety standards. The government has made it clear that now compromise on security will not be accepted at any level.
CM Dr. Mohan Yadav met the affected people. After this, action was taken against the responsible officers.
5. High level investigation committee formed, three senior officers included
The government has constituted a high-level committee to investigate the accident in depth. The committee includes Director General, Home Guard and Civil Defense, Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Government and Commissioner, Jabalpur Division. This committee will investigate the circumstances under which the accident occurred, why safety protocols were not followed and what were the flaws in the cruise operation. Based on the report, responsibility will be fixed and strict action will be taken.
6. Many responsible officers and employees were removed
Immediately after the accident, action has been initiated to fix responsibility. In this case, the services of cruise pilot Mahesh Patel, helper Chhotalal Gond and ticket counter in-charge (FOA) Brijendra have been terminated.
Sunil Maravi, manager of Hotel Maikal Resort and Boat Club Bargi, has been suspended on charges of negligence. Regional Manager Sanjay Malhotra has been attached to the headquarters and a departmental inquiry has been started against him.
Tourism department said – cruise is 20 years old
Yogendra Richharia, an official of the Tourism Department, said that currently only one cruise was being operated in Bargi Dam, which was built in 2006. Its capacity was 60 passengers. Another cruise is in bad shape.
