Israel’s main nuclear research center is considered to be one of the safest areas in Israel. The Dimona Nuclear Facility is located near the city of Dimona in the Negev Desert. Security here is very tight and to protect it, a multi-layered missile defense system is installed.
But a shocking incident happened on Saturday night. Two Iranian ballistic missiles dodged Israeli air defenses and fell into residential areas of Dimona and the nearby city of Arad. According to reports, the missiles covered a distance of more than 1500 km.
Both these attacks took place with a difference of about three hours. Iron Dome, David’s Sling, Arrow-3 and the American defense system THAAD failed to stop both attacks. According to Israel’s Health Ministry, 180 people have been injured in this attack, some of whom are in critical condition.

Israel admitted- failed to stop Iranian missiles
The Shimon Peres Negev Nuclear Research Center located in Dimona is commonly referred to as the ‘Dimona Reactor’. Israeli nuclear weapons are believed to be present here, although Israel has never officially acknowledged this.
This is considered the safest area of the country. The biggest matter of concern was that the Israeli Army itself admitted that it had tried to stop these missiles, but it could not succeed. In such a situation, the attack here has spread fear among the people living nearby.
Israel said – 400 Iranian missiles have been stopped so far
Israel claims that it intercepts most missiles. According to the Israeli Air Force, since the US-Israeli attack on February 28, Iran has fired 400 missiles, of which 92 percent were intercepted in the air.
However, this incident on Saturday night shows that no security system is 100 percent secure. Now investigation is being done as to how these missiles crossed Israel’s air defense system.
Israel has many types of air defense systems. Iron Dome is to stop small rockets. David’s Sling is used for medium-range missiles. The most advanced system is Arrow-3, which has the capability to destroy missiles near space. Apart from this, America’s THAAD system is also deployed there.
Despite this, these missiles reached inside. This is raising questions as to where the mistake happened. Some experts say that this could be a failure of operation, that is, the system was correct but there was a mistake in using it.
Fear of running out of stock of interceptor missiles
Another big concern is whether Israel is sparingly using its most expensive and powerful interceptor missiles. Many missiles were spent in the 12-day war with Iran last year, so the stock is expected to be low.
However, the Israeli army has said that it has enough missiles and is ready for a long war. Nevertheless, if the war continues for a long time, it is certain that the pressure will increase.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the attack on Dimon as a ‘miracle’ because despite such a massive attack, there were no deaths. He told people to immediately go to the bunker as soon as they receive the alert and not be careless.
About 175 people were injured in these attacks, out of which at least 10 are in critical condition. Many people were saved because they reached the bomb shelter in time.
No defense system is full proof
According to experts, stopping a ballistic missile is a very difficult task. A system like the Arrow-3 has to be hit directly by the missile, which is like two bullets hitting the air. If the missile changes course or there is a slight change in the wind, it becomes more difficult to stop it.
Apart from this, some missiles go up in the air and break into many small parts, which are even more difficult to stop completely. Their pieces also fall on the ground and cause harm.
Overall, this incident shows that no matter how robust the system is, complete security is not guaranteed in a war situation.
