Germany’s largest and oldest Hamburg mosque has been closed. This mosque is famous all over the world as ‘Blue Mosaic’. German police say that this mosque is run by a Shia Muslim organization and it has deep connections with the Iranian government.

Police say that this organization supports the terrorist organization Hezbollah and is trying to bring Islamic revolution in Iran. Germany banned Hezbollah in 2020, declaring it a terrorist organization.

According to BBC report, police in Germany have raided 54 places suspected of being linked to Islamic terrorism. Apart from mosques, raids have also been conducted in people’s homes. This is being described as the biggest action against Islamic fundamentalism. Iran has criticized this move and warned of facing serious consequences.

Many mosques were closed, accused of supporting Hezbollah

According to German news website Deutsche Welle, German police have also raided and closed three big mosques in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich. Police have also accused these mosques of being linked to Islamic extremism and spreading propaganda of the Iranian government.

According to Germany’s domestic agencies, the Islamic Center Hamburg (IZH) has a strong influence on many mosques and organizations in Iran. It has been under the surveillance of intelligence agencies since 1993.

Police have been deployed in front of the Islamic Centre.

Germany’s Home Minister Nancy Fesser said that this campaign is not against any particular religion but against those who do not believe in democracy and are associated with extremist organizations. Nancy Fesser has also accused them of inciting anti-Semitic sentiments.

According to Iran’s official news agency IRNA, Iran’s Foreign Ministry has complained about this incident to the German Ambassador in Tehran. They have termed it as Islamophobia and warned of dire consequences. The Foreign Ministry said that Iran has told the German Ambassador that his move could incite religious and sectarian tensions.
