The treasure kept in the inner Ratna Bhandar of the Mahaprabhu Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha was taken out on Thursday (18 July). For this work, 11 members of the high committee formed by the state government went inside the inner bhandaar at 9:15 am on Thursday.

Then it was decided that the treasures should be taken out from all the boxes and shifted to Mahaprabhu’s bedroom. It took the team 7 hours to do this work.

The value of gold found in both the warehouses is more than Rs 100 crore
Jagannath culture expert Bhaskar Mishra said that it is not easy to calculate the value of gems and stones found in the outer chamber. However, the initial estimated value of the gold found in both the stores could be more than Rs 100 crore.
According to Justice Vishwanath Rath, all the members fasted the whole day. The inner door was opened with the key that came from the treasury. The entire room was dark, so this time the team had taken halogen lights along with radium. As soon as the lights were switched on, the entire storehouse was illuminated.

The keys were lost, so the Ratna Bhandar could not be opened in 2018
The Odisha High Court had directed the state government to open the Ratna Bhandar in 2018. However, on April 4, 2018, when a team of 16 people reached the chamber of Ratna Bhandar on the orders of the court, they had to return empty-handed as it was claimed that the key of the Ratna Bhandar was lost.
When the key was not found, there was an uproar after which the then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ordered a judicial inquiry on 4 June 2018. The inquiry committee submitted its report related to the key to the government on 29 November 2018, but the government did not make it public and the key could not be traced.
In 2018, the then Law Minister Pratap Jena had told the Assembly that the Ratna Bhandar has more than 12,831 Bharis (one Bhari is equal to 11.66 grams) of gold jewellery. These are studded with precious stones. Along with this, there are 22,153 Bharis of silver utensils and other items. In August last year, the Jagannath Temple Management Committee had recommended to the state government that the Ratna Bhandar be opened during the annual Rath Yatra of 2024.
